Take note of the "dimple" at the top of the chip in the socket and the cut upper lefthand corner. These are used for chip orentation when inserting the new chip.

To remove the existing chip, use a small jeweler's screwdriver or similar device to gently pry the chip from the socket. Do not insert the screwdriver too deep. The screwdriver should only be inserted deep enough (about 1/16") to get underneath the chip being careful not to touch the bottom of the socket.

The screwdriver is alternately inserted into the upper right hand and the lower left hand corners with the notches in the socket. One corner should be raised slightly and then the other corner. Be careful not to bend the spring contacts on the socket.

Be careful not to insert the screwdriver so far that it comes in contact with the bottom of the PC board. See picture of empty socket below.

Install New Chip

Note the "dimple" along the top edge and the diagonal cut of the upper left hand corner of the chip.

To insert the new chip, carefully align the contacts on the chip with the contacts on the socket in the top picture.

Apply slightly firm even downward pressure to the body of the chip with a finger and it should snap into place.
